Print bed, pegboard type basics, board thickness, light profiles, colour inlays, borders and hole rings — how they work and what to choose.

A handful of settings appear in every workflow. They describe your printer, your pegboard type, the panel itself and its colours.
Print bed
Every piece is sized to the usable area: the bed minus the margin on each side. Set this first — it drives slicing, tile sizes and plate packing.

Enter your printer’s real printable area if it isn’t listed — check the manufacturer’s specs or the bed shape in your slicer’s printer profile.
MarginDefault 4–6 mm (by preset)Range 0–30 mm
Free border kept around every piece. Keep the preset value; add 3–5 mm if you always print with a brim, and only go lower if your printer is reliable right to the edge of the plate.
Pegboard type
The system your board follows: its hole pattern, its standard board thickness and the way accessories attach. It is the first setting of the Board tab (Pegboard type & panel), with the panel settings below it. The choice is covered in depth in Pegboard types and compatibility.
Pegboard typeDefault Capsule system
Capsule system, US 1/4″, US 1/8″, EU 5/25 or Custom. Picking one also sets the board thickness and the wall distance to that type’s standard, in one step you can undo. Custom adds a Holes group where you set the hole shape, size, column and row spacing and column offset yourself.
Hole clearanceDefault +0.2 mmRange −0.3 to +1 mm
Added to the hole’s width and height (in total, not per side) to compensate for holes printing slightly small. Tune it with a test print — see Calibration.
Front chamferDefault 0.6 mmRange 0–2 mm
A 45° bevel on the front edge of every hole. It guides hooks in and hides the slight squish of the first layer, which is the front face.
Edge marginDefault 4 mmRange 1–50 mm
Minimum solid material between any hole and an edge, seam, mount or other feature. Holes that would come closer are left out — never cut. Along the straight seams of a capsule board with the Straight seam shape, the 5 mm corridor sets the wall instead: about 2.5 mm (see Slicing into pieces).
Panel
Board thicknessDefault By pegboard typeRange 2–12 mm (Custom type)
Follows the pegboard type, so store-bought hooks seat as they do on the original board: 5 mm on the capsule system, whose clips expect boards of about 4.8–5.2 mm; 6.35 mm (1/4″) and 3.18 mm (1/8″) on the US types; 6 mm (standard, the default) or 3 mm (light duty) on EU 5/25. Built-in types offer only their standard thicknesses; the Custom type takes any thickness. See Standards at a glance.
ProfileDefault Solid
How much material the panel keeps between the holes. See below.
Light profiles
Solid — full material. The stiffest option, for heavy tools and very large pieces.
Pockets — shallow pockets cut into the back between the holes. The front looks solid; about 20–25 % less filament.
Pocket depthDefault 2 mmRange 0.4–10 mm
Depth of the back pockets. The front skin stays at least panel thickness minus pocket depth; on thin boards the app limits the depth so at least 1.2 mm stays in front.
Pocket ribDefault 3 mmRange 1.2–20 mm
Solid rib kept around holes and edges between pockets.
Colours, borders and hole rings
Colour is added as inlays: shallow layers set into the front face. Because panels print face down, inlays are the very first layers on the bed, so a multi-colour board needs colour changes only for those few layers — the rest of the print is one colour.
Printed face down: inlays are the first layers; the panel body follows in one colour.
Base colourDefault Warm white
The colour of the board itself. It becomes filament slot 1 in the export.
BorderDefault Off; 6 mmRange 0.5–200 mm
A band of colour along the outer edge of the board or panel, in its own colour.
Hole ringsDefault Off; 1.6 mmRange 0.4–10 mm
A coloured ring around every hole — striking on a light board, and it makes holes easy to find in a dim garage. Its colour is independent of the border.
Inlay depthDefault 0.6 mmRecommended a multiple of your layer heightRange 0.2–3 mm
Thickness of every colour inlay. 0.6 mm is three 0.2 mm layers: fully opaque for most filaments. Use 0.8 mm for white or yellow over a dark base.
Corner radius
Board workflows round the outer corners of the board, and shaped panels round the outer corners of the composition (default 8 mm and 6 mm). Radii of 6–12 mm look finished and resist chipping. Seams between pieces always stay square so neighbouring pieces butt tightly.
